Siemens(2008)discussion on the Metaphors of Educators. To understand the meaning of this speech given to the ITFORUM organization, you a Merriam Webster Dictionary. Why? because Siemens speech fits the definition. Lets start there: A metaphor is a figure of speech in which a word for one idea or thing is used in place of another to suggest a likeness between them. Dictionary example: "the ship plows the sea". The instructivist/constructivist had the most meaning for me and was straight forward in speaking. Example, when he was concluding his speech he bundled all the metaphors he had about the artist, network experts, concieges and curators. The best fit were the direct references to the work of the constructivist and the instructivist. Where he says the four models are similar, but this model fits the connectivism model. Connection is ongoing dialogue educational instruction and constructivism is a structured formst of definite educational elements. The parts of the speech i agree with are teaching using the internet. Siemens could have used the words teachers are in virtual reality classrooms. He also should have offered tools being used such as SKYPE. This connects the student and teacher through visual webcasting and miciphones. A concierge service, teachers do not present lessons this way, unless he was talking about home schools. Network administrators setup the computer threads of the lesson plan for teachers, teaches like to be recognized for their work with learners, but I don't believe they consider themselves as educational artists. A curator likes to look at events as historical and find a category for them. The sequence of ths speech was inconsistent. This is a learning activity for students, so that we see things differently and do as he did put new concepts together.

Stephen Downes, Karp Kapp, and Bill Kerr formed a group collectively and give students that followed ideas to refelect on and write about in the Kapp Notes. I will discuss their _isms, as filter, not blinker thoughts. The question is how can change occur without a theory? Unless you are in the educational field, you don't see articles in books written by computer gurus like Bill Gates referring any of their work to a theory related to behaviorism, connectivism, constructivism, cogitivism. I wonder if they did not read the scholars work and where did their ideas come from. The same question about the designers of GOOGLE. Lets turn another chapter, kids learn to operate computers and learn the academics from them, in my opinion more so than in formal classrooms with labs. Parents buy computers for the kids with all kinds of learning tools on them amd when they go to school, the boredom creates new ways of doing technology. When educators are in their educational circles of colleaques unless you are in class the isms are not the main topic, but the latest technology gadgets. What GOOGLE does have on their websites is everything you would ever want to know about the scholars of yesterday. Lets analyze the whys, first of all their patents, licenses and all kinds of paperwork required by our government and acknowlegements creates interested parties in a court of law. I am just being real. Bill Kerr says if you develop work using the constructionism way the learning theory is important to the curriculum reform effort. He also says _ism withstand criticisms and keep evolving. I believe that, but why in the mainstream marketplace of technology we don't at least references to the _isms. This would create a mammoth learning population. It would be easier for learners to understand where you are coming from in the front of the classroom. The thoughts of Kerr, Downes and Kapp are interesting, but leaves lots of unanswered questions.
Siemens(2004) view of networking in my opinion is closely related to blogging opinions. As a population we learn where information is stored on websites, but connectivism as a theory follows many directions. We get a chance as navigators research many topics, however, the learned material is not remembered in long term memory, unless it is a topic we are interested in and not just as surfer on the internet. Each author on connectivism presents a diffeent dialogue: Reference: http:/elearnspace.org/Articles/connectivism.htm For educators, networking is important to stay connected as group with all of ithe many viewpoints through forums and products like Skype. It is the educational community keeping the works of past scholars in the present state in our writings and speechs. Outside of the educational community theorists are not discussed. This could change with computer magazines, and technology journals, howecer this a topic for further study.
I found by listening to Rheingold (2008), my opinion to the meaning he was transporting to the audience was during the industrial age before technology, people used bartering and debated and bargained over prices and issues. In today's society our communications are fragmented, this in his reference to his statement that he was talking about a lot of different topics, education, business, GOOGLE and the internet. I support his view that as a group community we disagree. The world leaders are working toward stabilizing the economy. The greatest overall effect is unemployment and the stock market. There are no immediate solutions to these situations and I think this is what Reingold wanted to explain and discuss in a debate or a question and answer format, but he only had 20 minutes.
My blog title is Differentiated Instruction, it was very fruitful to learn that Scott Eldridge's school has a three year project on this topic. Like connectivism there are many directions his team and my project can research and publish during the next few years. Future thoughts other than the intelligence scale is being studied.

Gardner's theory and ethical minds is fast paced and not clear. However, His work is known worldwide. Numerous articles and books are referenced or written by him. From the video he talks about respectful as being a behavior that begins at birth. Ethical is abstract, but it is acceptance of all kinds of people according to Gardner. It means you see yourself as citizen of the world. I see Gardner as teaching professor who communicates verbally, although his speechs are limited and teh messages of his thoughts are lost on the listerner. I learned a lot from reading his classroom theories. They are: The Lesson design - Student input, team teaching which promotes the multiple intelligences of the professors. Secondly, interdisciplinary units. Gardner does not say, but my thoughts are a language arts class, which uses english and poetry. Students projects - My opionion utilize the students mind by being respectful of their research and show your faith in them that you believe the work will come from ethical resources. Assessments - Gardner states allow students to show what they learned. Demonstration - encouraging students to work with their teacher on how they will be assessed, while still meeting the teacher's learning standards. THe last one Gardner talks about is apprenticeships. What is interesting about his idea on the student and mentor relatinship is it should only take bout one-third of the student's learning sessions.
Gardner's writings are very practical, in one of his works, he says investing in formal education only means something if at the end of the day students can show they have an enhanced understanding of the questions of their topic.
